Maria Sharapova struggles to let go of her tennis instincts as she fully prepares to return to boxing

Even after retiring from professional sports five years ago, Maria Sharapova just can’t stay away from the action. Once an athlete, always an athlete. The former tennis star recently shared an interesting update with her fans, proving that she’s still all about staying active.

Sharapova, one of the greatest players of her generation with multiple Grand Slam titles, might have left the world of tennis, but she’s found a surprising new passion, boxing.

Sharapova switches rackets for gloves

Recently, she’s been throwing punches instead of serves, and her reasons for getting into the sport have definitely caught fans off guard. Maria is all about cardio, and she’s discovered that boxing gives her an incredible energy boost, both physically and mentally. And here’s the fun part-she’s even admitted that sometimes, she imagines she’s hitting people she doesn’t particularly like. Talk about a productive way to let go of negativity.

Even though Maria got into boxing for its amazing health benefits, she couldn’t help but notice something funny-her cardio sessions actually remind her of her powerful forehand from back in the day. The difference now is that she’s not doing it for power or competition, but purely for her own well-being.

Sharapova’s way to keep healthy

It’s no secret that when athletes retire and completely step away from sports, things don’t always go smoothly. After years of high energy, intense training, and a disciplined diet, suddenly switching to a sedentary lifestyle can take a toll-leading to weight gain or even mental health struggles. That’s why most athletes don’t just quit cold turkey. Instead, they find new ways to stay active, even if it’s not at a professional level-just like Sharapova is doing with boxing.

Let’s just hope Jake Paul doesn’t get any crazy ideas and, after seeing Sharapova putting on the gloves, decides she’s the next one he wants to take on in the ring.

Maria isn’t throwing punches to make a big sports comeback-boxing is just something she genuinely enjoys. She’s been into it since 2017, and even though she took a three-year break, it’s back in her routine again. Clearly, it’s more than just a workout for her-it’s something she loves and keeps coming back to.
