While the career of Pittsburgh Pirates‘ star pitcher Paul Skenes is just beginning, that of his superstar gymnast girlfriend has come to an end to be by his side full-time as he embarks on his Major League journey.

That’s right, Livvy Dunne has announced her retirement from gymnastics after concluding her final collegiate season.

Livvy Dunne’s announcement on social media

Livvy Dunne, LSU gymnast and Skenes’ girlfriend, shared her announcement on the social media platform “X,” revealing that she will no longer compete.

Paul Skenes and Dunne began dating while both were attending college, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Dunne is the NCAA athlete with the largest social media following, boasting 5.3 million followers on Instagram and eight million more on TikTok.

The recently concluded season was her fifth with the LSU gymnastics team, where they finished third in the National Championship. During the 2023-2024 campaign, she helped the team win its first national title and set a personal record of 9.900 on floor exercise on two occasions. She was also a member of the U.S. National Team in 2017.

Skenes, on the other hand, shone at LSU in 2023 after transferring from Air Force. He posted a 13-2 record in 19 starts, with a 1.69 ERA over 122.2 innings, allowing just 23 earned runs and seven unearned runs, along with 209 strikeouts and only 20 walks, leading the program to a national title.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in 2023 with the first overall pick in the Draft. He signed with the franchise for a $9.2 million bonus, the highest for a player at the time.

By May 11, 2024, he was called up to the majors, starting 23 games with a 1.96 ERA over 133 innings, allowing 29 earned runs, 94 hits, 6 home runs, and 32 walks. During this period, he recorded 170 strikeouts.
