It’s no secret that the Dominican Republic is one of the big favorites to conquer the 2026 World Baseball Classic, boasting a roster full of elite players accompanied by an electrifying energy that could end any other nation’s dream.

Now, on the eve of their debut against Nicaragua, several key figures spoke at a press conference, delivering a message that could excite fans and worry their rivals.

What Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. said before their debut

The MLB star outfielders highlighted the team’s personality when asked what to expect from the Dominican Republic national team in the World Baseball Classic once games begin.

SNY Mets shared the interaction on their official X (formerly Twitter) account. The outlet posted a video in which the two former San Diego Padres teammates describe the atmosphere surrounding the Dominican Republic national team heading into the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Their comments reflect the style that has characterized the country on the international stage for years. Dominican baseball culture is defined by emotion, rhythm, and the intensity with which players live every play. Effusive celebrations in key moments are part of an identity that generates unique energy within the lineup.

This approach remains central to the 2026 Dominican Republic roster under manager Albert Pujols. The future MLB Hall of Famer now leads a team that many consider one of the top World Baseball Classic title contenders.

Pressure has also intensified after the disappointing 2023 World Baseball Classic group-stage elimination. With stars like Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., expectations for the Dominican Republic have skyrocketed once again.

Even so, Soto and Tatis Jr.‘s message makes it clear the team has no intention of abandoning their identity due to tournament pressure. Both emphasized competing with the same passion, energy, and style that have historically defined Dominican baseball.

Instead, the team plans to showcase that expressive style while pursuing their goal of claiming their first World Baseball Classic title since 2013.
