With the highly anticipated Jake Paulvs Gervonta Davis exhibition match set for November 14, combat sports fans are buzzing and not just about the skill gap. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan weighed in live, highlighting the glaring mismatch between Paul’s cruiserweight frame and Davis’ natural lighweight size.

The host of a worldwide known podcast suggested tje fight is more spectacle than sport. His critique has only intensified scrutiny of what’s being promoted as a marquee showdown.

Rogan calls out a mismatch

On his podcast’s Fight CompanionRogan assessed the matchup with revealing bluntness:

Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis are so crazy. 135 vs 200, that is so nuts

When co-host Brendan Schaub asked what it meant that the fight is an “exhibition”, Rogan didn’t mince words, “That means nobody wins! It’s weird”. His unease reflects growing concern that the fight’s format and physical imbalance aren’t about competitive legacy, but ratings.

Tank’s legacy at risk

Rogan’s caution isn’t the only criticism in the boxing world. Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, known as “Mighty Mouse”, also questioned the logic of matching Davis with Paul, isntead advocating for a more creadible challenge: Darren Till.

Johnson argued Till’s recent performance, including a KO over Luke Rockhold, makes him a more legitimate and safer opponent for both competition and Davis’ long term career.
