JJ Redick’s admission catches Bronny James off guard after playoff game

The Los Angeles Lakers just pulled off one of the most improbable heists in recent postseason history. Trailing by six points with only 25 seconds left in regulation, the Lakers stunned the Houston Rockets to secure a 112-108 overtime victory. This win grants Los Angeles a 3-0 series lead, essentially punching their ticket to the second round, as no team in NBA history has ever successfully erased such a deficit.

The turnaround was fueled by a vintage LeBron James performance, finishing with 29 points and 13 rebounds, including a cold-blooded game-tying three. Alongside him, Marcus Smart proved exactly why the Lakers prioritized his veteran leadership, delivering 21 points and 10 assists while knocking down pivotal free throws.

Most impressively, the Lakers have pushed the Rockets to the brink of elimination without Luka Doncic or Austin Reaves, though Reaves is potentially eyeing a return for Game 4 this Sunday.

LeBron and Bronny: The 10-Point Surge that Silenced Houston

While the victory was a team effort, the second quarter featured a historic sequence that the Houston crowd won’t soon forget. LeBron James orchestrated a 10-point run entirely powered by the father-son duo, highlighted by a perfectly placed alley-oop to Bronny James for a smooth reverse layup. Bronny finished the night with five points in his playoff new career high nine minutes, a seemingly modest total that actually outscored the entire Rockets’ bench on its own.

Following the game, JJ Redick shed light on the unique dynamic within the locker room. He revealed a private conversation he had with LeBron back in 2024, stating that he was hired to coach Bronny the player, not “LeBron’s son.”

This admission seems to have caught Bronny off guard, as the rookie has been allowed to develop under a staff that “pours into him” without the typical superstar-family favoritism. Redick expressed genuine excitement over Bronny’s playoff debut growth, noting that seeing the two years of hard work culminate in a high-stakes postseason moment was a “really cool” milestone for the organization.

Managing the King’s Fatigue: Why Austin Reaves is the Key to Game 4

Despite the 3-0 lead, the Lakers are showing visible signs of wear and tear. LeBron James has shouldered an immense workload, averaging nearly 40 minutes per game. The physical toll was evident in Game 3, where the “King” committed eight turnovers, many stemming from late-game exhaustion. With the Rockets now effectively demoralized, the Lakers’ primary goal is to close the series quickly and get healthy.

The return of Austin Reaves for Sunday’s matchup would be a game-changer. Reaves’ ability to take over playmaking duties would allow LeBron to conserve energy for a deeper run, especially with the looming possibility of facing the Spurs or Trail Blazers in the next round.

If the Lakers can complete the sweep, they may also benefit from a refreshed Luka Doncic, who is expected to return for the second round. For now, all eyes are on Toyota Center this Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET, where Los Angeles looks to finish the job and secure their first trip to the conference semifinals since 2023.
