Arsenal regain Premier League lead but pay a price that could change their season

Arsenal FC hosted Newcastle United with the opportunity to return to the top of the table at a point in the season where every detail begins to feel different.

The response came without too much noise.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal won 1-0 with a goal from Eberechi Eze, enough to tilt a game that never really opened up.

It was not a wide score, but it was clear what it meant.

Because with that result, Arsenal reached 73 points in 34 games and provisionally moved to the top of the Premier League, three points above Manchester City.

But that advantage is not complete

City still have a game in hand, and that changes the reading of the lead. It is not a consolidated difference, it is a pressure that remains open.

And that’s where the price comes in.

Because Arsenal not only won the match. They also lost stability at the most delicate moment.

Eberechi Eze, the goalscorer, and Kai Havertz both had to leave with niggles, leaving an immediate doubt just before one of the most important stretches of the season.

That’s the real cost.

A lead that is not assured… and two key players in doubt when the schedule no longer allows for any margin for error.

Because what is coming is not minor.

Arsenal are not only still competing in the Premier League, but also have a Champions League semi-final ahead of them.

And in this context, any absence weighs more than normal.

Their next Premier League match will be against Fulham on May 2, again at home. But the focus is no longer just on picking up points, it’s on seeing which team can do it.

Because Arsenal now have the lead, but they do so at a clear price: the doubt over whether they will be able to sustain it when they need it most.
