Japan vs Venezuela: What time and where to watch the “clash of the titans” in the World Baseball Classic Quarterfinals?

The night of Saturday, March 14, 2026 will see the baseball world come to a halt when Japan (4-0) and Venezuela (3-1) meet in Miami. It is a duel that many expected to see in the final, but fate has brought them together in the quarter-finals.

Japan arrives after strolling in Tokyo with an abysmal run difference (+25), while the “Vinotinto” advanced as second in Group D after a fierce battle against the Dominican Republic. It is the classic confrontation between elite Asian pitching and the excessive power of South American bats.

Schedule and broadcast channels

Saturday’s stellar game will be broadcast at the following times:

  • Saturday, March 14, 2026.
  • Time: 9:00 p.m. ET (USA / Venezuela) / 7:00 p.m. (Mexico).
  • Television (USA): FOX (National Network).
  • Streaming: FOX Sports App and Disney+.

Pitching duel: Ohtani vs. La Vinotinto

Japan’s ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto (RHP, LA Dodgers) will be the starter. Yamamoto is coming off 2.2 innings of shutout ball against Chinese Taipei and is expected to extend to 65-70 pitches today. His combination of split-finger fastball and curveball is, for many, the best in the tournament.

Venezuela’s Ranger Suarez (LHP, Philadelphia Phillies). The Phillies left-hander has the task of stopping a Japanese lineup full of dangerous left-handers such as Ohtani and Murakami. Suarez is known for his poise in postseason games, something Venezuela will need today more than ever.

Players to Watch and Rosters

Japan

The Japanese team plays almost perfect baseball: dominant starting pitching, impeccable defense and timely hitting.

  • Shohei Ohtani: Although he will not pitch in this game, as a designated hitter he has been a nightmare, hitting over .500 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in the first round.
  • Munetaka Murakami: Japan’s “Babe Ruth” is looking to unleash his power in MLB stadiums after a quiet but efficient start to the tournament.
  • Masataka Yoshida: Last year’s RBI leader remains the most consistent bat on the team.

Venezuela

Omar Lopez’s team bets on slugging to break down the Japanese wall.

  • Luis Arraez: The batting champion arrives on fire with seven hits in 14 at-bats. His mission will be to get on base so that the power hitters can do their job.
  • Ronald Acuña Jr.: The Braves superstar is the X-factor; his speed and power can change the game in a single swing.
  • Eugenio Suarez: He has been Venezuela’s most timely hitter, leading the team in extra-base hits during the group stage.

Statistics and Prediction

Incredibly, this is the first official meeting between Japan and Venezuela in World Baseball Classic history. Japan is looking for its sixth consecutive semifinal (perfect record), while Venezuela is trying to return to this stage for the first time since 2009.

Our prediction is Japan wins. Although Venezuela has the power to punish any mistakes, Japan’s discipline and Yamamoto’s arsenal seem to be too high a hurdle. However, it is expected to be a close game that will be decided by less than two runs.
