The World Anti-Doping Agency has just announced that it has reached an agreement to resolve the case of Jannik Sinner, the ATP number one, for violating anti-doping rules after testing positive for a prohibited substance in March 2024. The agreement is a three-month suspension from February 9 to May 4. The Italian, who won the Australian Open, will be able to play at Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season

In September, to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Sinner after the CAS ruling that the Italian tennis player had not committed any fault or negligence after a double positive for Clostebol was revealed.

“Following a thorough investigation by the ITIA (including advice from WADA-accredited laboratories), we are satisfied that the player had established the source of the prohibited substance and that the violation was not intentional. Today’s outcome supports this finding,” WADA said in a statement.

Arrives in Rome and Roland Garros

Sinner will obviously miss Doha, which takes place next week, and will miss Miami and Indian Wells, among others, and part of the clay court season (Monte Carlo and Madrid), but he will be in Rome and also at Roland Garros

“The ITIA referred the matter to an independent panel which reached a decision of ‘No Fault or Negligence’ and therefore no suspension based on the facts and their application of the rules. The outcome in three months was only possible through an agreement between WADA and the player,” said the World Anti-Doping Agency’s public statement.
