Jaime Munguia is still trying to explain the positive test for exogenous testosterone that is compromising his career

The prominent career of the Tijuana boxer is seriously faltering following recent revelations about his positive doping test. This was the result of an anti-doping test prior to his fight against French boxer Bruno Surace.

Jaime Munguia and his team have issued a statement saying that they have asked the authorities to analyze their Sample B to confirm whether the result is the same as in their Sample A.

“Exogenous testosterone – like many banned substances – can enter the body in various ways, not just through intentional use,” it said in a statement.

However, according to specialists, it would be extremely rare for both tests to yield different results, so the outlook for the Mexican pugilist is not encouraging.

What happened to Jaime Munguia?

Despite the positive result to antidoping, his team emphasizes the fact that in all his previous years as an athlete he had never tested positive for a doping test, trying to highlight the professional ethics of the athlete, pointing out his impeccable track record with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.“First, it is important to reiterate: Jaime Munguia has never tested positive in more than 100 anti-doping tests throughout his professional career so far. His record speaks for itself,” his team said.

However, they also reveal that out of several tests that were carried out randomly, Munguia was the only one who tested positive.

“The test in question was one of several tests conducted during training camp; all other tests were negative.”

Munguia’s team argues that exogenous testosterone, the hormone that was detected in the anti-doping test, can be consumed accidentally. Therefore, his team is analyzing all the products and treatments, from dietary supplements to medications that Jaime Munguia has consumed in recent months to try to prove his innocence.

“This is a meticulous process in which we are committed to discovering how this substance could have entered his body,” his team said.

Jaime Munguia’s record

The former WBO junior middleweight world champion has become one of the most powerful Mexican boxers, with a record of 45 wins, 35 of them by knockout, and only two losses, one of them against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Meanwhile, the most recent victory was against French boxer Bruno Surace by unanimous decision after finishing the 12 rounds.

It was prior to this last fight that he would have tested positive for doping, thus tarnishing the rematch he had consummated in a positive way against Surace.
