Ángel Guillermo Hoyos is beginning to establish himself as a key figure in Inter Miami’s current lineup. After taking over as interim coach following Javier Mascherano’s departure, Hoyos not only made an immediate impact on the field but may also remain in the head coaching role for several more months.
Hoyos’s debut couldn’t have gone better: a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids, highlighted by a brace from Lionel Messi. And, with an eye on the schedule -which includes the World Cup -the possibility of extending the Argentine’s tenure at the helm is not so remote.
Hoyos to Stay at Inter Miami Until the World Cup
The club’s leadership, headed by David Beckham, will keep the former sporting director in the role at least through June-July and is reportedly considering extending his tenure even further, according to Olé USA.
In a context where the “Herons” aim to be competitive by 2026, they are navigating a year marked by the FIFA World Cup, to be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
During this period, Major League Soccer, like most leagues, will pause and resume between the tournament’s semifinals and final.
However, amid recent changes and some uncertainty, Inter Miami is betting on stability. And in that direction, Hoyos is emerging as an increasingly solid option, backed by results and, above all, by the club’s support.
The coach, who previously worked within the club’s sporting structure, initially took over as interim manager but did not rule out continuing in the position if the board so decides: “I am at their service for whatever they wish,” the Argentine said in his first press conference in charge.
The early elimination from the 2026 CONCACAF Champions League was a tough blow, but with this new victory over Colorado under Hoyos’s leadership, the team remains hopeful.
Currently, they are the reigning MLS Cup champions and have a record of four wins, three draws, and one loss in the eight MLS matches they’ve played this season.
Now, Inter Miami will face Real Salt Lake at America First Field for another MLS match on Wednesday, the 22nd, and will wrap up the month of April at Nu Stadium on Saturday, the 25th, where they’ll take on New England in search of their first home win.
