Saul Ñiguez revealed the family drama he is experiencing despite returning to play with Flamengo in the Brazilian league. The Spanish player, who was returning from injury, has been in hospital for days because of a problem with one of his children.

“I’m very happy to be back. I was lucky because my daughter came to see me after such a long time. It hasn’t been easy for me because my middle son is in the ICU, he has slept in the hospital for the last three days, and I had to play today. It was hard, but I managed to enjoy it. And seeing my daughter makes me happy,” said the player after the match, where he managed to provide a goal assist in the win against Bahia (2-0)

Saul had not played with Flamengo since December 17, in the Intercontinental against PSG. An injury that has kept him out of action for four months and forces him to fight for a place with De la Cruz, Jorginho and Paqueta, his rivals for a place in midfield.

“Before I came on I told the fourth official that the substitution was complicated because I thought I was going to score. I still haven’t scored an official goal with Flamengo and I would like it to be at the Maracana, with our fans. I told Nico: I didn’t manage to score, but at least I gave the assist,” said the player after the match.

“I was out for four months, watching my teammates train so close and not being able to be with them. It wasn’t easy mentally. I still haven’t thought about the position I’ll play in, I’ve only worried about my health,” added Saul, who after the game posted a photo on social media to thank his fans and show that he was returning to the hospital to be with his son.
