Dak Prescott and ex-fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos, reach the best possible settlement following breakup

For a situation that seemed destined for a public legal fight, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and Sarah Jane Ramos have taken a notably different path.

Just days before they were due to face each other in a Texas courtroom, the former couple reached a temporary custody agreement for their two young daughters, bringing an abrupt sense of calm to what had quickly become one of the NFL‘s most talked-about off-field stories.

The agreement, approved by a Collin County judge, avoids immediate litigation and allows both parents to continue making decisions privately. While the details remain confidential, the court noted the arrangement serves “the best interest of the children,” a sentiment echoed by Ramos‘ attorney, Raymond Rafool.

“Sarah Jane is very happy that she and Dak are able to make decisions for the parties’ girls and their family on their own,” Rafool said, emphasizing her belief that cooperation will benefit their children in the long run.

The resolution comes after a turbulent few weeks. Prescott and Ramos had been preparing for a destination wedding in Lake Como, scheduled for April 10, before abruptly calling it off. The cancellation surprised many, particularly given how quickly their relationship had progressed.

The pair began dating in 2023, welcomed their first daughter, Margaret, in early 2024, and got engaged later that year. Their second daughter, Aurora, was born in 2025, adding to what appeared to be a stable and growing family.

But by March, the situation had shifted. Prescott filed a Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship, a legal step often used in Texas to establish custody and parental responsibilities. A court hearing was initially set, signaling the possibility of a prolonged dispute.

Behind the scenes, reports suggested tensions tied to alleged infidelity had contributed to the breakup, though Prescott‘s legal team has maintained that the split was mutual and urged restraint in public speculation.

Choosing stability over a public battle

Rather than allowing the situation to escalate, both sides stepped back. On the day of a scheduled hearing earlier this month, they informed the court they would attempt to resolve matters privately, setting the stage for this week’s agreement.

That decision has reframed the narrative. Instead of a courtroom clash, the focus has shifted toward co-parenting and stability, particularly important given the ages of their daughters.

Sources close to the situation indicate both Prescott and Ramos remain actively involved in their children’s lives, with no immediate complications in sharing responsibilities. Ramos has continued to share moments with her daughters publicly, while Prescott has largely stayed out of the spotlight.

What it means for Prescott moving forward

For Prescott, the timing offers a degree of clarity as attention turns back to football. With the Dallas Cowboys preparing for the upcoming season and the NFL Draft approaching, avoiding a prolonged legal dispute removes a potential distraction.

His head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, recently noted the quarterback is in a “good spot” despite the personal challenges, reinforcing the sense that Prescott has managed to keep his focus intact.

While questions remain about the relationship and its sudden end, the outcome suggests both sides are prioritizing what comes next rather than what went wrong. In a situation that could have spiraled publicly, Prescott and Ramos have instead chosen a quieter resolution, one that keeps their daughters at the center of the story.
