The WBO super featherweight world title will be on the line on the night of Saturday, May 10 in San Diego when Mexican fighter Emanuel Navarrete faces undefeated Filipino Charly Suarez, and the bout has all the elements of a boxing event that prides itself on offering quality and adrenaline

The venue for this fight will be the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, a venue that does not bring back very good memories for the famous ‘Vaquero’ after the debacle suffered against Denys Berinchyk, and where he is looking to string together two victories after the one achieved against Oscar Valdez at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, last December.

History and achievements of both fighters

The Filipino has 10 fights won by knockout and a total of 18 victories in a thrilling professional ring history that began late after defending his country’s flag at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He is now 36 years old – compared to the Mexican’s 30 – and will do everything possible to snatch the title from the native of Zumpango, State of Mexico, who has a record of 42 fights, of which he has won 39 (32 by knockout) and has lost only two, with one draw to his name.

It is fair to mention that in his long journey through the rings, the ‘Cowboy’ has belts in three divisions, one in the junior featherweight division of the WBO from 2018 to 2020, another in the featherweight division of the WBO from 2020 to 2023 and one more in the junior lightweight division of the WBO since February 2023.
