Dave Roberts makes bold claim about 2026 Dodgers roster

There is a quiet confidence around the clubhouse as the season approaches.

Dave Roberts believes the Los Angeles Dodgers have reached a new level, calling the 2026 group the strongest team he has managed so far, a message reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

That matters because of what Roberts has already accomplished. Multiple championships, consistent postseason runs, and now a roster that, at least on paper, looks even more complete.

This is not just another contender. It is a team being discussed in terms of legacy.

The Dodgers did not stand still after winning back-to-back titles. They added Kyle Tucker, one of the league’s most reliable hitters, to a lineup already built around Shohei Ohtani.

The result is an offense that feels deeper and more difficult to navigate from top to bottom.

A roster built differently this time

There is a noticeable shift in how this team is constructed. Previous Dodgers teams often leaned heavily on a few key names. This version spreads responsibility more evenly.

The biggest change comes on the mound. Clayton Kershaw is no longer part of the picture after closing out his career with another championship. His absence marks the end of an era, but it also highlights how the team has evolved.

Now, the rotation is anchored by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, coming off a World Series MVP performance, with multiple arms capable of carrying the load on any given night. That depth has become essential in today’s game, where durability often defines October success.

Ohtani continues to blur the lines. In his final spring outing, he struck out 11 batters, a reminder of how disruptive he can be as both a pitcher and hitter. Few players in modern baseball force opponents to prepare in so many ways at once.

Around the league, there is growing acknowledgment of what this roster could become. Former MLB player Trevor Plouffe has pointed out that Tucker could thrive in this environment, benefiting from consistent protection in the lineup and more opportunities to produce.

The conversation has already shifted

The expectations surrounding this team are no longer limited to reaching the postseason. The comparison now being made is to the New York Yankees teams that won three straight World Series titles from 1998 to 2000.

That is the standard. No team has matched it since.

The Dodgers open the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the bigger storyline will follow them throughout the year. Every stretch, every series, will be measured against the idea of sustaining excellence long enough to make history.

Roberts’ statement did not come across as hype. It felt more like a reflection of what he sees daily. “This is the best team I’ve had,” is not just a headline. It is a signal to the rest of the league that Los Angeles believes it has something special again.
