Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate is confident that he will reach 1,000 goals before retiring

There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo has revolutionized soccer and taken it to a whole new level. The Portuguese player is close to scoring 1,000 goals in his professional career, something that has never happened before in the history of the sport, and a former teammate has no doubt that he will achieve it.

Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha, better known as Nani, was CR7’s teammate during his first spell at Manchester United and is confident that Cristiano will achieve this historic record before he retires.

Nani believes in CR7’s thousand goals

After ending his strike at Al Nassr in the Saudi Professional League against the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and missing the matches against Al Riyadh and Al Ittihad, the team captain returned and scored.

With his 962nd goal in matchday 22 of the Saudi Pro League against Al Fateh, he is now just 38 goals away from the incredible and unique milestone of 1,000, his next challenge.

He will look to add to this tally in the AFC round of 16 against FK Arkadag on Wednesday, February 18, or on Saturday, February 21, against Al-Hazm, but a former teammate believes he will reach that milestone before announcing the end of his career:

“He will easily reach 1,000 goals, I have no doubt. It’s an important milestone for Cristiano, something he’s been thinking about for years,” he told Four Four Two (vía BolaVip).

In addition, Nani, with whom CR7 won two Premier League titles (2007-08, 2008-09) and the Champions League in 2008, assured what Ronaldo would be willing to do to achieve that milestone in soccer: “Cristiano could make a movie with all his goals… He would do it, even if he had to play in the lowest professional league to achieve it, but I don’t think he’ll need to,” Nani said confidently about his former teammate.

Nani arrived at Old Trafford in 2007 and, together with CR7, they became one of the most iconic duos of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, marked by a deep friendship that began at the Sporting Lisbon academy.

“Cristiano has always known what he wanted. His determination and unbreakable spirit have made him one of the best players in history,” added Nani, who also shared a dressing room with the Al Nassr captain in Portugal, where they were key players in Portugal’s Euro 2016 victory.

With 38 goals to go to reach the legendary milestone, Cristiano has also confirmed that he will wear the colors of Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19. This will allow the captain to extend his scoring streak and close the gap on 1,000 goals in this tournament as well.

He will make his sixth appearance in the tournament, the only player to do so (Lionel Messi could join him if he confirms his participation). Portugal will be in Group K alongside Colombia, Uzbekistan, and the winner of the Intercontinental Playoff between Jamaica, Congo, and New Caledonia. They will play their first match on Wednesday, June 17, against the winner of the Intercontinental Playoff.
