Christensen suffers serious injury: he suffers a partial tear of the cruciate ligament in his left knee

Bad news for Christensen, Hansi Flick and Barcelona. The Danish international has been seriously injured. Another blow for the Catalan team, which cannot empty its infirmary.

According to Barcelona, the Danish international suffered a partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, which occurred accidentally when he made a bad movement in Saturday afternoon’s session.

The 29-year-old former Chelsea defender did not travel with the rest of the squad to Castellon, where Barca will play against Villarreal, and underwent tests which confirmed the extent of the injury. Barcelona, however, did not report the injury until midday.

The defender, who joined Barça in the summer of 2022, will undergo conservative treatment and will not go under the knife to overcome this partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The estimated time out, which will be at least several months, will depend on his evolution.

Uncertain future

Injuries have not given Christensen a break, as in recent seasons he has been suffering from different ailments, the most serious in the Achilles tendon, which have prevented him from having continuity in the team. He is not a regular starter in the center of defense and has started in only four games this season.

The Denmark international’s contract expires next June and Barcelona, for a number of reasons, such as his intermittent performances, have yet to offer him a contract extension. The centre-back has always been keen to stay at the Camp Nou, but after this serious injury, his future is even more uncertain.

Christensen, whose professionalism is always praised by Flick, has played 17 games this season (515 minutes) in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, scoring one goal, in the cup tournament against Guadalajara in last Tuesday’s clash at the Pedro Escartin.
