Through social media, Fox Sports in the United States announced a signing for the 2026 World Cup. Javier Hernandez will be at the World Cup, not with the Mexican national team on the pitch, but with the television station.

Chicharito will have a microphone to analyze the world’s top sporting competition after his time and controversial departure from Chivas in the Liga MX.

Is Javier Hernandez retiring from soccer before the 2026 World Cup?

The Mexican has yet to find a club to continue playing for, but he has not announced his retirement and for the moment he will be working in television in the neighboring country.

What was Chicharito Hernandez’s departure from Chivas like?

It should be remembered that it was only last December when the striker left Mexican soccer after a second spell with Guadalajara. Despite arriving with great expectations and sentimental illusion, Hernandez managed to close his relationship with the club in the worst way.

Controversies, poor performance, bad attitude and criticism were the factors that led both the Guadalajara institution and the historic player to end their adventure and with them closed their history in Mexico.

Hernandez Balcazar’s farewell came after missing a penalty in the second leg of the Quarterfinals of the Apertura 2025 against Cruz Azul. The miss sentenced the team in the final minutes of the match at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario. The moment has been described by the striker himself as “the most painful” of his life as a footballer.

Chicharito and his second spell at Chivas

  • 41 official matches
  • Injuries and lack of consistency
  • 4 goals (3 in Liga MX and 1 in Concacaf)
  • 1 attendance
  • 1 missed penalty
