Cam Schlittler surprises Yankees with winter plan: how he wants to become the next Bronx ace

Cam Schlittler became one of the biggest surprises in the 2025 season when he made his debut on the mound with the New York Yankees, where he quickly established himself as one of the pillars that helped the team get into the postseason. In his rookie numbers, he had a 2.96 ERA, 84 strikeouts and a masterful 12-strikeout appearance against Boston in the wild-card round.

Now, the right-handed pitcher is determined to prove that what he did when he arrived in MLB was not a stroke of luck, nor anything else, which is why he already has his plan for this winter. Cam Schlittler plans to continue to polish his pitching repertoire and in January he will report to Tampa to work on his development, showing his commitment to “The Bronx Bombers”, who are looking to end a 16-year World Series drought.

Cam Schittler adds new pitches to his repertoire: the change that excites Yankees fans

The Yankees have revealed that they see a bright future in Cam Schlittler, but they are also aware that they must continue to develop their young pitcher. The pitching staff, led by Matt Blake, have decided to start working on a plan for him to have more weapons when facing left-handed hitters.

The staff wants Schlittler to master the changeup to complement his repertoire of a 98mph fastball, cutter and curveball, in order to induce more weak swings and avoid long at-bats that wear down his arm

Cam has spent much of the winter training at Northeastern with former college teammates, where he has revealed that his goal is to become less predictable and more lethal in full-count situations.

Yankees 2026: a rotation in transition that needs Cam Schlittler

The Yankees have Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt in recovery for early 2026, so Cam Schlittler and his planned adjustments take on more value, as New York intends to open the campaign with a mix of youth and veterans. Max Fried, Will Warren, Ryan Yarbrough and Schlittler are expected to be part of the starting rotation before their stars return

However, the organization is also looking for reinforcements, with Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai being mentioned as a possible target to give more depth to their pitchers. But beyond who might arrive in the Bronx, there is already a development plan that gives peace of mind to fans and members of the pitching staff.
