Bo Bichette and the Blue Jays’ big salary dilemma

Bo Bichette was a key piece for the Toronto Blue Jays this 2025 season. He has settled in well with the blue uniform and has also found stability and love for the city, his teammates and everything he has experienced during his time with the Canadian team.

However, free agency is approaching and there are many aspects to consider for the team and the player himself. A decision will have to be made soon to determine whether the team can pay him what he deserves or whether he will have to look for new opportunities elsewhere.

I’ve said I want to be here from the beginning.

Bo Bichette

This is what Bichette had to say about his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, which speaks to how happy he is with the team.

For ESPN, things look like this.

Toronto already has future commitments of around $850 million. Adding a big-money contract for Bichette would push its projected payroll for 2026 to nearly $200 million, with spots to fill in its pitching staff.

The Toronto Blue Jays have the money to stay on top

Vladimir Guerrero was given a $500 million contract, which clearly says that there is financial capacity for the team to be strong. Even at one time they went for Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani.

They have the backing of Rogers Communications and a dedicated fan base to support them in their high ambitions.

Bo Bichette’s injury that could put a damper on negotiations

The Jays’ management has a dilemma with their powerful hitter, and the problem of the recurring injury he has suffered in his left leg is an issue for him to remain with the team.

He was out for seven weeks before the postseason and in the World Series he could not be 100% recovered. In game seven of the Fall Classic he hit an early home run that gave the Blue Jays the lead, but when he ran and reached base, he was seen to suffer; something was wrong.

According to Spotrac, he is expected to be given a seven-year, $168 million contract, which he is worth, although they will have to do a full evaluation of his knee and see how healthy he will be for the 2026 season.

I will remember this group forever.

The teams that could steal Bo Bichette

There are already several teams interested in signing Bo Bichette. The most interested are the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves.

The decision is currently up in the air, but will soon have to take a definitive course. Will he stay in Toronto or seek a new challenge?
