Baseball isn’t ready for what’s coming – the Dodgers are already plotting their three-peat takeover

Despite securing their second consecutive World Series title, those inside the Los Angeles Dodgers organization know that not everything is “fine.” In fact, there was a glaring weakness that the Toronto Blue Jays exploited – and some late postseason improvisation only managed to cover it up.

The problem? The bullpen. While it’s true that Roki Sasaki stepped up as a closer for much of October, the Dodgers know they can’t keep forcing players into roles that don’t suit them.

A department in need of reinforcements

Heading into 2026 – when the Dodgers will chase a historic three-peat – the relief options available to manager Dave Roberts aren’t ideal. The primary late-inning arms are Tanner Scott and Blake Treinen, but the depth behind them raises real questions.

ESPN’s Alden González outlined the situation clearly now that MLB’s offseason is underway: the Dodgers need to make the bullpen their top priority.

“The Dodgers have one massive need heading into the offseason – they need a closer. More broadly, they need trusted arms late in games, particularly right-handed ones. Brusdar Graterol (coming off shoulder surgery), Blake Treinen (37 and coming off a rough year), Edgardo Henriquez, and Will Klein (hard throwers with command issues) are the incumbents there, and they all have questions. So look for the Dodgers to be really aggressive in that space, either through free agency or via trade, or both,” González wrote for ESPN.

He added that the team is expected to be linked with Tarik Skubal and Kyle Tucker, two names that could shake up MLB’s offseason – even if those pursuits end up being secondary to the bullpen rebuild.

Free agency is unfolding, and the Dodgers haven’t revealed which pitchers they’ll target, but one thing is certain: they’re planning to strike fast and bold.

Since 2000, no team has achieved a three-peat. The last to do so were the New York Yankees. If the Dodgers truly want to etch their dynasty in baseball history, strengthening this bullpen is no longer optional – it’s a must.
