It was by no means an easy knockout tie for Atlético Madrid. After securing a 2-0 lead at Camp Nou, they had to suffer to clinch their place in the UEFA Champions League semifinals at home against a Barcelona side that, at one point, threatened to knock them out of the competition – although in the end, it was a completely different story.

Diego Pablo Simeone took full advantage of this edge to become the first manager to eliminate Barcelona from the Champions League multiple times, knocking them out in the quarterfinals in 2014, 2016, and now 2026.
