Xavi Simons raises concerns after knee injury that could rule him out of the World Cup

During a routine play in the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Xavi Simons went down after planting his foot while in motion. There was no heavy collision or clear contact, just a natural movement that quickly turned into a worrying scene. Within seconds, attention shifted away from the game and toward the condition of the Dutch midfielder.

The images were clear and sparked immediate concern. Simons tried to continue after an initial medical check, but the pain in his knee forced him to leave the field on a stretcher. The match, which ended 1-0 in favor of Tottenham, quickly became secondary.

A moment that changes everything before the World Cup

The incident occurred around the 56th minute, with the score still 0-0. Although the play didn’t seem particularly dangerous, everything points to a potentially serious knee injury. Early reports suggest fears of a possible anterior cruciate ligament injury, which could sideline him for months. There is still no official diagnosis, but head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that further tests will be conducted in the coming days to determine the severity.

If a major injury is confirmed, the impact would be significant not only for his club but also for the Netherlands national team. With the World Cup just weeks away, Simons had been an important piece in the Dutch setup. Under Ronald Koeman, the Netherlands is already dealing with several fitness concerns, making this potential absence even more critical.

As medical tests continue, uncertainty grows for both the player and his national team. A single routine play could end up keeping one of Europe’s most promising young talents out of the biggest tournament in world soccer.
