Banorte Stadium, the World Cup venue in Mexico City, hosted its second match since its reopening. The first was the friendly between the Mexican national team and Portugal on March 28, 2026, as part of its presentation after its remodeling. Now, on April 11, the stadium opened its doors again for a local match between Club America and Cruz Azul, played at 11:05 pm ET.

How was the match?

America was the first to take the lead with a header from Patricio “Pato” Salas after an assist from Alejandro Zendejas, in an action that gave the team a start with control of the game. But Cruz Azul responded before the break, when Omar Campos appeared inside the area to score the equalizer and leave the game tied at halftime.

From there, the duel remained open, with both teams finding moments in the match, without either managing to completely dominate.

And just when it seemed that the night was progressing normally, a point appeared in the conversation about the stadiumIs the Banorte Stadium really ready to host halftime shows?

Just yesterday it was announced that there would be a halftime show with Venezuelan artist Lasso, which generated expectations around the moment. However, what seemed to be part of a night designed to accompany the reopening of the venue, ended up leaving another sensation, as audio failures interrupted the development of the show.

The moment did not go unnoticed in the stands, where boos began to ring out, reflecting the crowd’s annoyance at a stadium that had been presented as renovated.

Because, beyond the draw on the pitch, what happened off the field began to raise questions about the functioning of the stadium in this new stage and whether it will be fully ready for the opening of the World Cup on June 11.
