The names of the Mets and the Yankees continue to make headlines in the final stretch of the offseason. Now it is Aaron Boone, manager of the Bombers, who stars in one of the latest news about both franchises. With some players leaving for the crosstown rival, Boone spoke out and made it clear who is in charge in New York.

After the movement of players between the two franchises, including reliever Luke Weaver and right-handed pitcher Devin Williams, the manager was asked about the Mets phenomenon and their insistence on signing Yankees players, a scenario that reaffirms the rivalry between them.

It’s not exactly the Bronx!

With that brief and resounding message, Boone made it clear that the Yankees are in charge in New York, or that the Mets are not so identitarian in the Bronx. It is worth mentioning that his words were in a joking tone. He said it with humor, because he recognizes that the neighbors are doing things right.

In fact, the manager expressed his satisfaction with Weaver’s success, while recognizing the realities of constant roster movement in a competitive market. Weaver established himself as a reliable arm in high-pressure situations during his time with the Yankees, before securing a multi-year contract with the Mets

Under the understanding that it was a moment of humor, he expanded his comment to emphasize how positive it is that the two New York organizations invest in their respective rosters with top-level baseball players. For him, competition encourages and promotes better team participation, which benefits local fans because they feel they are being properly represented.

Boone’s Christmas work

Boone, who has managed the Yankees since 2018 and has taken the team to the postseason in six of his first seven full seasons, attended a Christmas charity event in support of local families.

The manager spent his time signing autographs, taking pictures with people and handing out food and toys to those in need. Making children happy at this time of year is something he considers endearing because that is how the community feels close to his team.
