Zurdo Ramirez is challenged: “If he wants to be the best, he has to beat me”

Gilberto Ramirez is the cruiserweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the World Boxing Association (WBA) and on June 28 he will defend his belt against Cuban Yuniel Dorticos (27-2).

This fight stands out on the card of Jake Paul against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who will face 10 rounds also in the 200-pound division.

Jai Opetaia better than Gilberto Ramirez

Beyond this fight, Zurdo Ramirez (47-1) has long been challenged by Jai Opetaia (27-0), the Australian International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion, who has asked the Mexican for unification.

“I feel like I’m the cruiserweight that generates the most money with Ramirez, the biggest payday fight, but it’s a risk for him. I honestly think that if he wants to call himself the best cruiserweight in the world, he has to beat me first and until he does he won’t be.

“I’m looking for unification fights. I believe I’m the best in the division and if I keep winning, the money will come anyway, so I need the fights to happen,” said the Australian to The Ring.

Zurdo Ramirez vs Jake Paul?

Opetaia also spoke about the possibility of Gilberto Ramirez deciding to face Jake Paul instead of fighting him.

“I don’t know what he wants to do or what he’s trying to do, he’s looking for money, you can’t blame him if he wants to fight Jake Paul for a huge sum of money. Who would turn that down? I’d beat up Jake Paul for a couple of million too“.
