Some wanted David Benavidez, others wanted the rematch against Dmitry Bivol, or even to see him again against Golovkin (unlikely), but the reality is that Canelo Alvarez will face William Scull in Saudi Arabia, and it is the Cuban who responds to all the famous detractors and not so famous, flaunting his resume to remind them why he is the chosen one.

In his first words prior to the fight this Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, William Scull responded to critics such as Oscar de la Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez, who have criticized and claimed that the fighter is not at the level of Saul Alvarez

“To each their own, everyone has their own taste, their own way of thinking and saying things, I tell people that to those who say that William Scull is a bum, no, I am a world champion and the position I have is because I earned it, nothing has been given to me, I earned the belt,” the undefeated fighter told Azteca Deportes.

He also recalled the beginnings of De La Hoya and Marquez on TUDN

“It bothers me that they are boxers from below like me, from scratch. My story, like that of every fighter, has been difficult. I have been in four countries beating everyone, today I am a world champion, they say that I am unknown and it is fine, but I have not had the support of television, nor of a great promoter, what I have achieved on my own.”

Canelo Alvarez seeks 59th victory against William Scull

With 17 years of career, Canelo Alvarez has fought 62 times, of which he has won 58. The winner will take home all the super middleweight titles.

Scull promises to give everything against Saul Alvarez

Scull is undefeated with a 23-0 record (with nine knockouts), but he knows that beating Canelo not only looks good, but will give him the title of unified super middleweight champion and that’s why he promises to give his all to avoid losing for the first time against the Canelo Team fighter.

“I have faced many different styles of boxers and I have always defended and attacked. I am a fighter for life who is going to go out and give everything in every fight and tactically, we are very good.”
