Garrett Nussmeier was the Kansas City Chiefs‘ final pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The LSU quarterback was selected in the seventh round on Saturday, 249th overall, and stole the show. But he wasn’t the only one.
As he celebrated this milestone with family and friends, his fiancée Ella Springfield also turned heads with her outfit.
Springfield steals the show with her dress
Nussmeier, son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, finished his career at LSU with 7,699 passing yards, 52 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions in 40 games played. His fiancée was there to support and cheer him on during several games, and draft day was no exception.
On her official Instagram account, Springfield shared several photos and videos of Nussmeier’s selection and the subsequent celebration, but she also stole the show by wearing a stunning white dress.
“Delayed but not denied!!!! God is so so so good! We can’t wait to call Kansas City home,” she wrote in a post, adding teary-eyed and heart emojis. She also shared a post from the Chiefs’ official account showing the moment Nussmeier was selected and his family’s reaction.
Springfield and Nussmeier began their relationship at LSU in 2021. In July 2025, the marketing professional and social media influencer and the quarterback announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post:
“Forever and always, yes yes yes. ‘I have found the one whom my soul loves.’-Song of Solomon 3:4,” they wrote alongside six photos of the proposal.
For her part, she has what it takes to become a social media star: she already has over 16,600 followers on Instagram, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she gains even more popularity and followers in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Garrett eagerly awaits his NFL debut. His first year as a starter, in 2024, raised expectations as he recorded 4,052 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. However, he was limited to nine games in 2025 due to a cyst on his spine that was pressing on a nerve, causing abdominal and oblique pain throughout last season. He accumulated 1,927 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Since shortly before the Senior Bowl, the quarterback has remained symptom-free, but if his condition were to change, he could undergo a medical procedure, according to the NFL Network.
Kansas City’s decision reflects both short-term caution and long-term planning. With Patrick Mahomes firmly established as the starter, Nussmeier will likely begin his career as a backup, learning from Pat and serving as an alternative if needed.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to learn,” Nussmeier said. “I’m just grateful that I have this opportunity. I can only imagine. I’m so excited to be in a room with those guys, coach Reid and his unbelievable offensive mind and sitting behind Patrick and steal some things from him and see the game through his eyes. It’s going to be an unbelievable experience for me.”
