Patrick Mahomes’ new rookie teammate is spending his NFL salary on two Maseratis for his mother and sister

Peter Woods has barely begun his professional football journey, yet the Kansas City Chiefs rookie is already making headlines for a big gesture that took place away from the field. Drafted 29th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, the former Clemson Tigers defensive tackle entered the league with a reputation as one of the most disruptive interior defenders in college football.

Many scouts had already begun comparing his explosive style of play to elite NFL forces such as Aaron Donald, and Kansas City clearly believes he can become a cornerstone on their defensive front.

The draft night itself was far from traditional. Instead of a home gathering, Woods and his family celebrated at a Maserati dealership in Atlanta.

Dressed in coordinated white outfits, his family and friends watched as his NFL future became reality. When his name was called, the emotional moment quickly shifted into celebration and an immediate decision that has already turned heads online.

Draft night gift that reflected his journey

Almost immediately after being selected, Woods turned his attention to the people who supported him long before the spotlight arrived. He surprised his mother and sister with brand-new Maserati SUVs, a purchase that totaled roughly $200,000, with each vehicle estimated between $80,000 and $100,000.

Woods described both women as steady sources of encouragement throughout his development, especially during quieter and more difficult periods when his future was still uncertain.

“They’ve been two women in this process who have really reached out and checked on me,” Woods told Palmetto Sports. “But forget the process. That’s my mom and my sister, you know what I’m saying?

“They’ve really been there for me when the door was closed and the lights were off and people didn’t really know what was going on. But they knew.

“Sometimes I don’t always vocalize that. Sometimes I’m busy, so I really felt like it was important to go big and make it hit home for them because they certainly deserve it.”

Financially, Woods is stepping into one of the more lucrative rookie situations in the league. His four-year contract with Kansas City is valued at approximately $17.3 million, including a signing bonus close to $9 million. That places his average annual earnings at around $4.3 million, not including previous NIL opportunities he earned during his time at Clemson.

With expectations already high, Kansas City is hoping their newest defensive addition can translate his college dominance into immediate NFL impact while continuing to mature into a leader on and off the field.
