Barcelona face one of the most decisive matches of their European season against Copenhagen. The Catalan side are coming off a 3-0 win over Real Oviedo, which has put them back in control of LaLiga, however their progress in the Champions League has been far from solid.

In the most recent matchday, they beat Slavia Praha 2-4 in the Czech Republic, but they have also had setbacks such as the 3-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, or the 3-3 draw against Club Brugge, as well as the defeat against PSG in matchday two. That is why, despite being a heavy favorite, they will have to pay special attention to the match to avoid a defeat that could be a real tragedy for a club that is on the rise.

Barça is currently ninth in the table with 13 points, level with several clubs fighting to finish in the top eight places, which would advance directly to the last 16. A slip-up could force the Catalans to play in the play-off round.

When and where to watch Barcelona vs Copenhagen?

Barcelona hosts Copenhagen at the Spotify Camp Nou on matchday 8 of the 2025-26 Champions League league phase, a revamped format that keeps several teams in contention until the last matchday. For Hansi Flick’s side, it is not only mandatory to win, but to do so by the widest possible margin.

This highly anticipated match will be played on Wednesday, January 28 at 3:00 pm ET. As a special feature for this matchday, all the matches of the day are played simultaneously, a measure implemented by UEFA to avoid sporting advantages. As for the broadcast, the match can be seen in the United States through Paramount+ and TUDN

  • Date: January 28
  • Time: 3:00 pm ET
  • Venue: Camp Nou, Barcelona
  • Broadcast: Paramount +, TUDN

What is Barcelona playing for in this match?

With several teams tied on points, goal difference will be key to deciding who goes straight through to the last 16. That’s why players such as Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Fermin Lopez will have a key role to play in attack.

Although they are the away team and less favored, FC Copenhagen still have hope. The Danish club has eight points and needs a win to keep dreaming of qualification. In their last European matches, they have shown solidity, including a draw against Napoli and key victories that keep them in contention.

Possible lineups for Barcelona vs Copenhagen

  • Barcelona: J Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martin, Balde; E Garcia, Dani Olmo; Yamal, Fermin, Raphinha; Lewandowski
  • Copenhagen: Kotarski; Meling, Gabriel, Suzuki, Lopez; Elyounoussi, Madsen, Claesson, Larsson; Cornelius, Dadason

Both teams’ casualties

Barcelona will be without Pedri and Frenkie de Jong, both absent through injury and suspension respectively. This forces Flick to reorganise the midfield, with options such as Eric Garcia, Marc Casado or Dani Olmo. Meanwhile, the Danish side will be without Mexican full-back Rodrigo Huescas, who is out of action through injury.
