After becoming one of the most talked-about storylines during the latest FIFA International Break – and sparking reactions across the football world – Lamine Yamal has joined the growing calls for Neymar to be included in the Copa del Mundo 2026.

What Lamine Yamal said about Neymar and his impact

The young star of FC Barcelona once again made his admiration crystal clear, labeling Neymar as his idol and one of the biggest inspirations in football. Yamal praised the Brazilian’s legacy and openly expressed his desire to see him back on the world stage.

“I’ve seen it many times, even live. Neymar is a player who marked my entire childhood. He is my idol. I will always be grateful for everything he has given to football. He always inspires us. He’s one of those players you pay a ticket just to watch him play,” Yamal said.

Neymar’s status for the 2026 World Cup

Neymar’s presence at the 2026 World Cup remains a major question mark. Since Carlo Ancelotti took over as head coach of Brazil national team, the forward has not been called up – including the most recent international window.

After recovering from injury, Neymar has been working to regain his top form with Santos FC, showing encouraging signs in recent weeks. Ancelotti has not ruled out his return, making it clear he could be part of the final squad for 2026 – provided he reaches peak physical condition and can help Brazil in its pursuit of another World Cup title.
