The goal for the Giants is clear: forget the previous three seasons, during which they were among the worst teams in the league, and become a team capable of truly competing in the NFC East. In that division, the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys remain question marks, while the Philadelphia Eagles appear to be slowly declining.
Giants fans have started to dream again after the impressive rookie season from Jaxson Dart. The young quarterback made an immediate impact, leading an electrifying offense and recording 24 total touchdowns in 12 games. In an effort to elevate the project, the team hired John Harbaugh as head coach. Harbaugh will attempt to turn Dart into a star, just as he did with Lamar Jackson and previously with Joe Flacco.
To lead the offense, the Giants also hired Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator. While his last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs were not his best, he played a role in the early development of Patrick Mahomes. The hope now is to replicate that process with Dart, a talent the franchise cannot afford to waste.
The Giants’ moves could benefit Cleveland
The Giants are surrounding Dart with talent in free agency. They added tight end Isaiah Likely, a player who was highly trusted by Harbaugh during his time with the Baltimore Ravens. They also surprised many by signing Darnell Mooney, a receiver whose production has declined but whose talent is still evident.
Along with Darius Slayton and Malik Nabers, the Giants may no longer be in the market for wide receivers in the upcoming draft.
That could open the door for the Cleveland Browns, a team in need of offensive talent across the board. With the low production from Jerry Jeudy in 2025, wide receiver is certainly one of those needs. Now led by head coach Todd Monken, the Browns are hoping to land Carnell Tate, the standout receiver from Ohio State Buckeyes football, who could have an immediate impact on the offense.
If the Giants pass on a receiver with the No. 5 pick in the draft, they could choose another type of talent, which would open opportunities for Cleveland at No. 6 to select Tate.
Tate comes from one of the most successful wide receiver programs in college football, which also produced Jaxon Smith-Njigba, now a star for the Seattle Seahawks.
A receiver like Tate would help whichever quarterback Monken decides to start. That decision has not been made yet. At the moment, Deshaun Watson appears to have the advantage because of his massive contract, although the favorite among fans is Shedeur Sanders, who finished last season as the starter in the final seven games.
