Patrick and Brittany Mahomes may be the NFL’s most powerful young couple, but at home, they’re just Mom and Dad to Sterling, Bronze, and newborn Golden.
From high-school sweethearts with long-distance dreams to becoming Football’s First Family, the Mahomeses have built a blueprint for raising grounded, happy kids while living at the peak of fame in the United States.
And along the way, they’ve learned a lot – about balance, identity, patience, and what really matters with a love that started with a long-distance relationship but quickly developed into a family of five and a staple for American culture.
The story that began before the NFL
Patrick and Brittany‘s story began long before Super Bowls or MVP trophies. They met in high school, survived different colleges, and each chased their own sports careers – Patrick to Kansas City,Brittany all the way to Iceland to play professional soccer.
They were engaged in 2020, but parenthood came first. Sterling Skye arrived in February 2021. Bronze followed in November 2022. And in 2024, the Mahomeses welcomed baby No. 3: Golden. Three kids, two massive careers, and one of the largest public spotlights in sports – yet they’ve handled it with honesty, humor, and a lot of heart.
NFL life isn’t built for perfect family schedules, and Patrick learned that early. Before a 2023 holiday-week game, he admitted on Pro Football Talk how painful it was to miss Christmas morning with his kids. But he flipped the perspective in typical Mahomes fashion: “I’ll be able to spend the evening with them and open presents then… I’m excited for that.”
The main lessons learned
It’s a theme he returns to constantly: control what you can, savor what you get. Fatherhood, he says, made him more present – at home and on the field. Another big lesson is to encourage the kids without expectations. The Mahomes kids are already showing personality, but Patrick and Brittany refuse to box them in. Sterling gravitated toward soccer naturally – no pushing, no drills, just joy. Patrick beams when he talks about her little left foot, but he’s clear: sports are optional.
“If they want to play sports, awesome. If not, that’s great too. Just follow your dreams.” Bronze is still crawling, but the same rule applies. And Golden will grow up with the same freedom. After all, balance isn’t easy, but it’s everything. Between NFL seasons, business ventures, media appearances, and raising three kids, balance takes intention. Brittany sees it firsthand.
“[Patrick is] the best father ever… he’s done an amazing job balancing his work life and his at-home life.” Patrick has been just as honest, especially in Netflix’s Quarterback docuseries: “People see game days. They don’t see the day-to-day grind… You want to win, but I have to be a dad too. I have to be a husband.”
