With the NFL offseason getting into its ending, much information floods the media landscape about potential moves, trades, departures, and arrivals. This time, we have news about the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter as carrier pigeon .

According to him, both franchises are in the final stages of a trade that will ultimately send wideout D.J. Moore to Western New York. While the deal cannot be done until March 11, 2026 (when league’s year starts) the report suggests that both front offices are aggressively pushing to cross the finish line.

The pieces on the move

According to the reports from Schefter and other league insiders, the compensation package is this one: Buffalo receives D.J. Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 163) and Chicago gets a 2026 second-round pick (No. 60) in return.

Also, as part of their agreement, the Bills are guaranteeing $15.5 million of Moore’s 2028 salary to help facilitate the move. He is set to earn a base salary of $23.5 million in 2026.

The reason behind the trade

The interest in Chicago to trade Moore lies in the $16.5 million in cap space they will clear for 2026. This, combined with the retirement of Drew Dalman, gives the Bears a massive mattress of roughly $26.5 million to spend in free agency.

However, the decision to move Moore was not an easy one for Bears GM Ryan Poles who, during the NFL Combine spoke well about him, describing him as a great teammate and a consistent producer for the squad.

If an agreement is finally reached by March 11, the Bears will enjoy a second-round pick that will provide a lot of help to develop a competitive team around Caleb Williams. Hopefully, this trade allows the franchise to create a younger and more flexible team ina time when they look to reshape their offensive identity.
