Warriors Injury Report: Curry, Butler, and Green out for high-stakes matchup

The Golden State Warriors will be missing their legendary “Big Three” tonight as they host the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chase Center. In a significant blow to the team’s momentum, the Warriors confirmed that Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green will all be unavailable for the Friday night showdown.

The absences come at a precarious time for Golden State, who recently returned from a three-game road trip through Toronto, Brooklyn, and Charlotte.

The trio of stars is sidelined for a variety of reasons:

Stephen Curry: Sidelined with a left ankle tweak sustained late in Wednesday’s win over the Hornets. Curry described the injury as a “little blast from the past,” though he expressed optimism about a quick return.

Jimmy Butler: A surprise addition to the injury report. After not being listed initially, the team announced Friday morning that Butler woke up feeling under the weather with an illness.

Draymond Green: Officially listed as out for rest as the team manages his workload during the first half of a home back-to-back.

National TV and the $100,000 risk

Because tonight’s game is being broadcast nationally on Prime Video, the Warriors find themselves under the microscope of the NBA’s recently implemented Player Participation Policy.

The policy is designed to ensure stars are available for high-profile games. Since Curry and Butler have both been All-Stars within the previous three seasons, their absences trigger a league review.

If the NBA deems these absences illegitimate, the Warriors could face a staggering $100,000 fine. However, the team remains hopeful that the documented nature of Curry’s ankle and Butler’s illness will satisfy league officials.

The road ahead for Curry and the Warriors

Despite the roster turbulence, the Warriors have been trending upward, winning five of their last six games to climb to an 18-16 record. Currently sitting at 8th in the Western Conference, every game is vital for playoff positioning.

Friday, Jan 2 – Oklahoma City Thunder – Home

Saturday, Jan 3 – Utah Jazz – Home

Monday, Jan 5 – Los Angeles Clippers – Away

The team is optimistic that the trio will return for Saturday’s matchup against the Jazz, especially since 10 of their first 11 games in January are scheduled at home-a stretch that could define their 2026 season.
