Tyreek Hill’s response to Tua Tagovailoa benching speaks volumes about Dolphins future

Changes are abound for the Miami Dolphins. On Wednesday, head coach Mike McDaniel made the decision to bench quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, which sent shockwaves throughout the NFL world. This came after yet another below-average performance from the QB, which has become commonplace this season.

Quinn Ewers will step in for Tagovailoa in what is now a lost season for the Dolphins. Miami has been eliminated from playoff contention, while their $50-plus million dollar quarterback may not be the long-term answer for the franchise. With star wide receiver Tyreek Hill nearing 32 years old and coming off of a major knee injury, it’s fair to wonder what the Dolphins offense will look like in 2026.

Tyreek Hill “peaces out” of Miami Dolphins franchise after Tua benching

It sounds like Hill won’t be around to find out. After Tagovailoa’s benching was announced on Wednesday, Hill took to X.com and posted a “peace sign” GIF that all but makes clear he’s on his way out of Miami in the offseason. He then blamed offensive tackle Terron Armstead for retiring early: “T stead fault he wanted to be a podcaster.”

The Armstead thing was a joke, but the GIF speaks volumes. Despite mounting criticism of Tagovailoa at times, Hill always had his QB’s back and was supportive of him even through his struggles. If Tagovailoa is gone in 2026, then so is Hill most likely.

The problem for the Dolphins is they will be hard-pressed to find a trade partner for Tagovailoa, as $54 million have already been guaranteed for next season. Hill is under contract for 206, too, but he will probably be much easier to move.
