Travis Kelce gets punished one week before Super Bowl, raising even more controversy concerns

The Super Bowl is now just a week and some change away from coming to fruition. It’s tough to argue that the two teams who made it don’t deserve to be there. The Kansas City Chiefs accumulated a 15-2 record during the regular season and have made it to the last three Super Bowls. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have the most talented roster in the league, at least according to the general consensus among NFL analysts.

Despite both teams making it to the final game with well-earned wins, there remains an outcry of “rigged” concerns from a portion of casual fans. The Chiefs have been part of several controversial calls in the past, and also during these playoffs. In particular, there have been some bang-bang plays resulting in Patrick Mahomes getting penalty calls, as well as a play in the AFC Championship in which the Buffalo Bills turned the ball over on downs when it looked like they had converted.

Travis Kelce gets fined for taunting Damar Hamlin in AFC Championship

There was also a play during the Chiefs-Bills game where Buffalo was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, where it looked like Travis Kelce was the one who initially taunted defensive back Damar Hamlin. Kelce got away with it in the moment, but has now been slapped with a fine of $11,255.

This comes six days after it happened, and will be of no solace to the Bills after the game has been over for quite some time. It likely wouldn’t have affected the game much, but it’s another piece of evidence Chiefs haters can point to.

Kelce also seemed to taunt a Houston Texans player after catching a touchdown in the Divisional Round, but that one went unnoticed both during the game and after.

Almost all of the controversial plays the Chiefs find themselves in are very close and subjective most of the time. But it won’t stop fans from fueling their opinions.
