This past Monday, March 2, 2026, Trae Young became a trending topic, and not necessarily because of his performance on the court, but rather for what he did while off it, as he remains sidelined due to injury, following a rather peculiar incident.
It all seems to indicate that his eagerness to finally return to the hardwood in full uniform and showcase his best plays for his new squad led him to act irrationally, ultimately affecting his official debut.
The Washington Wizards ended up losing the matchup against the Houston Rockets 123-118, and with Young’s disproportionate reaction, he wound up being ejected from the contest without having officially made his debut.
The Trae Young incident
It all began when Tari Eason sent Jamir Watkins to the floor during the third quarter of the game at Capital One Arena. The shove Watkins received did not appear to stem from any particularly controversial sequence. As expected, the play generated significant controversy.
Teammates and coaches immediately stepped in to separate the players involved. It was at that moment that Trae Young entered the court from the bench area. The guard was dressed in street clothes and began arguing with the referees.
According to league rules, any player who is not in uniform is prohibited from confronting officials in any manner. As a result, he was automatically ejected from the game despite not having been active.
Tari Eason also faced disciplinary action. He was assessed two technical fouls and subsequently ejected from the contest. Watkins and Sharife Cooper each received a technical foul for responding to the initial aggression.
It is worth remembering that Young has not played since December 27, 2025, due to an issue affecting both his knee and quadriceps. So far this season, his numbers are as follows.

Young arrived in Washington this past January 2026 via a trade with the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The expectation is that the Wizards guard will make his official debut this coming Thursday, March 5, when they face the Utah Jazz.
Following this incident, it appears that Young clearly understood he must avoid acting impulsively so as not to negatively impact his team. For now, he continues his recovery process, which seems to be at full strength, and his long-awaited debut could come in the coming days.
