This is how Cristiano Ronaldo Jr’s youth career outpaces CR7’s achievements

The Cristiano Ronaldo name looks set to continue in soccer for another couple of decades, as Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. continues to rack up trophies with the Portugal Under-16 national team. The son of Al-Nassr captain Ronaldo has now secured his third youth international trophy, cementing his remarkable early career and pointing to his exciting potential.

The Portugal U16 squad recently clinched the Algarve Tournament title with a 3-1 victory over Germany on the third and final matchday at the Vila Real de Santo António Sports Complex.

Having previously defeated Japan 3-0 and Netherlands 1-0, the young Portuguese team needed only a draw to secure the championship. Instead, the Selecao youth completed a perfect sweep.

Cristiano Jr. started in the match against the Netherlands and came off the bench in the other two fixtures. His defining moment came against Japan, when he delivered a dazzling back-heel assist to Jose Garrafa for the second goal of the match.

At just 15 years old, Cristiano Jr. has already surpassed his father’s youth international trophy tally. While Ronaldo Sr had a storied youth career, he won only one title – the Toulon Tournament (now the Maurice Revello Tournament) in 2002.

In contrast, Cristiano Jr. now boasts three youth international trophies and looks set to add a whole host more at the current rate.

Earlier, he lifted the Confederations Cup in Turkey with a 2-1 win over England in the final. The starlet also claimed the Vlatko Markovic Tournament with the Portugal U15 squad in Croatia, where he scored a brace in a 3-2 victory against the hosts.

Ronaldo keeps Cristiano Jr’s feet planted on the ground

Despite his rapid rise, Ronaldo has worked hard to keep his son grounded and to appreciate how his success has derived from tireless work.

In a 2019 interview with TV1, he said: “When he saw my place [house], he could not believe that I had lived there. He asked me: ‘But have you really been here?’

“Now it’s all easy, the houses, the car and everything. But to become a great footballer you can’t think that everything falls from the sky.

“It’s not the talent that reaches you, you have to grab it. You have to work hard and that’s what I’m trying to make him understand.”

Ronaldo also emphasized he would never put Cristiano Jr. under duress to enter into a professional career: “I will never pressure him. He will do what he wants,” he said in 2022.

“Also what I want the most for Cristianito and everyone else is that they’re happy and that they choose what they want. I will support in any way.”

Ronaldo reveals wish to play together

The Al-Nassr star, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, hinted at a possible on-field collaboration with his son before he retires.

“My son tells me: ‘dad, hold on a few more years, I want to play with you’,” Ronaldo revealed.

If Cristiano Jr. continues on his current trajectory, that partnership could prove a formidable force, blending a storied senior career with a prodigious youth talent.

With three youth international trophies already, Cristiano Jr. is not just following in his father’s footsteps, he is beginning to forge his own legacy in soccer history.
