The New York Mets are going through a true crisis in the 2026 MLB season. Following a new defeat against the Cincinnati Reds, the New York franchise fell to a worrying 22-33 record, drifting further and further away from the expectations they had at the start of the year.

In this context, renowned MLB insider Ken Rosenthal left the door open for a potential departure of Freddy Peralta, one of the most valuable arms in the rotation.
“I would say Freddy Peralta is much more likely to get traded than Tarik Skubal, at least right now,” said Rosenthal, per Foul Territory on X, formerly Twitter. “And the caveat here… is that we are more than two months away from the deadline.”
The insider further explained that while there are still more than two months left before the market closes, he believes the Detroit Tigers are unlikely to move Skubal due to weak competition in their division and the strong financial commitment they maintain with their current roster.
Meanwhile, if New York decides to listen to offers for Peralta, the Dominican right-hander will surely become one of the most coveted names on the market. Elite starting pitching always generates interest among contenders, especially as the season enters its decisive stretch.
For now, there is no clarity on what the Mets would demand in exchange for Peralta, but if the crisis continues to deepen, the organization could be forced to rethink the team’s immediate future and consider major changes to the current core.
