The Mets no longer smile after the signing of Juan Soto: problems are piling up for the New York team

TheNew York Mets are preparing for the 2025 season with the World Series in mind, in a project cemented with the millionaire contract ofJuan Soto for $765 million and 15 years. However, after a winter market full of expectations, several concerns have arisen that have their fans on alert.

The offense is not a problem for the Mets, but defensively there are red flags in their rotation, following the departure of Luis Severino to the Athletics, while Jose Quintana is still on the free agent list. The strategy for 2025 was to look for pitchers to give them depth, but injuries have disrupted manager Carlos Mendoza’s plans

The newly arrived rotation reinforcement Frankie Montas was placed on the injured list and will be out six to eight weeks with a high-grade strain of the right latissimus dorsi muscle in his back, but that is not the only bad news for the Mets.

Sean Manaea prefers to stop before injury worsens

But if the loss of Montas is not enough, the starter Sean Manaea joined the hospital with a strain in the right oblique that will leave him out of circulation for two or three weeks and will miss the Opening Day of the Mets, in addition to missing the practices of the Spring Training, it is likely that he can climb the mound until the second half of April.

“From my point of view, it’s very, very disappointing. I hate being injured. If I’m not out there pitching, doing my job, it sucks. I’m going to do everything I can to get there as healthy and as fast as possible,” Manaea told MLB.com.Manaea underwent an MRI that revealed the strain, which he acknowledged is a disappointment, as he thought during the preseason he was doing everything he could to train, although he clarified that it is better to stop now.

“I’d rather miss a couple of weeks now, at the beginning of the season, than do something and then miss a significant amount of time,” Manaea said.

With these absences, the responsibility of the rotation will fall on Kodai Senga, who will be backed by Clay Holmes and David Peterson, while pitchers Paul Blackburn, Griffin Canning and Tylor Megill will fill the gaps left by Manaea and Montas.
