The future of Jasson Dominguez with the Yankees is not assured: MLB analyst reveals his problems

The name Jasson Dominguez has been synonymous with hope for the New York Yankees in recent years, so his departure would be unexpected, to say the least. However, an MLB analyst raised the alarm by revealing internal factors that could seriously complicate the Dominican outfielder’s place in the Bronx for the 2026 season.

Pressure mounts in New York as fans demand high-impact moves

The New York Yankees’ offseason promised much, but it has remained just that, promises, as while other teams strengthened their rosters, the Bronx Bombers have remained cautious, and the New York fans are not particularly known for their patience.

The uncertainty surrounding Cody Bellinger, who seemed like a clear solution for the outfield, has only intensified the focus on internal options. That is why the focus has shifted to Dominguez, one of the most talked about prospects, but also one of the most questioned at the moment.

Cameron Maybin and doubts about Jasson Dominguez

On January 12, 2026, MLB analyst Cameron Maybin shared a discouraging view on the future of the young outfielder. According to Maybin, the Yankees have not shown a full commitment to Dominguez’s natural development as a switch hitter.

The Yankees haven’t fully committed to allowing Dominguez to be the switch hitter he’s always been

Maybin

In addition, Maybin pointed out that his use in the Major Leagues has been inconsistent and limited, which raises doubts about whether he will really be able to take over left field permanently.

With Bellinger out of the picture, there’s no guarantee Dominguez will secure the job

Maybin

Far from having a clear path, Dominguez could face direct competition in spring training. Maybin suggests the Yankees could open an internal battle between Dominguez and fellow prospect Spencer Jones, another strong name in the system.

This scenario reflects an uncomfortable reality: the talent is there, but the fit within the roster is not guaranteed for either of them.

Jason Dominguez as a trade chip for the Yankees

The doubts do not end there. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Yankees could be forced to include Dominguez or Spencer Jones in a trade package if they seriously want to bolster their rotation.

The Milwaukee Brewers, for example, would ask a high price for Freddy Peralta, a pitcher who would immediately fit into a rotation hit by the absences of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon. In that scenario, names like Jasson Dominguez, Jones, Will Warren or Luis Gil could be involved in the negotiations.

Given the moment the Yankees are in, with the pressure mounting, holding on to prospects without a defined role could be a bigger risk than using them as key pieces to strengthen the team now.
