The Josh Allen stat that makes clear the Bills QB is at fault for poor performances

For the past few years, each offseason was filled with tremendous hope for Buffalo Bills fans. They had a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen, and the AFC was somewhat open despite the Kansas City Chiefs frequently beating them in the playoffs. Ahead of the 2025 season, it felt like this was the year for the Bills to really make their move.

Instead, the Bills have been frustratingly inconsistent this season. A tough loss to the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football brought the Bills’ record to 7-4, which is still good for an AFC Wild Card spot currently, but several other teams are only one or two games behind them. The loss to the Texans exposed the Bills offense in a concerning way, though.

Allen took a career-high eight sacks, as he was under constant duress from a vicious Texans pass-rushing defensive line. Allen threw two interceptions, too, making it nine in total over the past eight games. In the aftermath of the loss to the Texans, analysts and fans are divided on whether Allen is at fault for his struggles or it’s his supporting cast.

Buffalo Bills have a great offensive line, yet Josh Allen is taking more sacks than ever

While the pass-catchers don’t seem to be getting much separation, Allen’s penchant for taking sacks is starting to concern many. The amount of sacks he’s taking might very well be on him, too. Despite Buffalo’s offensive line grading out as the best unit in the league, Allen is taking sacks at an unprecedented rate.

Buffalo’s offensive line didn’t play well against Houston, but Allen has taken multiple sacks in six games this season. He’s holding the ball too long – which could be due to his receivers not getting open – and isn’t evading sacks like he has throughout his career. It’s possible he’s just not as athletically superior to tacklers as he gets close to reaching the age of 30.
