December is usually a month of joy, but this was not the case for Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, who are going through one of the most difficult times of their lives after the loss of their newborn daughter.
In the midst of their grief, the Dodgers sought to demonstrate to the pitcher and his wife that they are also their family by giving them an unexpected gesture that managed, for a moment, to bring a smile back to their faces.
A simple gesture that meant a lot to Alex Vesia and his wife
On Christmas morning, Alex Vesia was in for a surprise he didn’t expect. When he met up with several of his teammates, he found them all wearing identical pajamas, a scene planned to take him out of the pain and give him a moment of levity.
“Let all the boys show up in the same pajamas,” wrote Kayla Vesia, sharing the video on TikTok. In the images, Alex is heard reacting with laughter and surprise when he realizes that they were all dressed the same. Kayla accompanied the clip with a message: “A good laugh.”
The Dodgers family is there in difficult times
The loss of little Sterling Sol, publicly announced in November 2025, deeply marked the couple. At the time, Alex and Kayla shared a message on social media where they expressed:
There are no words to describe the pain we are going through… Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family was there for us.
That support was not only emotional. During the World Series, in which the Dodgers were crowned champions against the Blue Jays, several players wore Vesia’s number on their caps as a symbol of solidarity, while the pitcher stayed away from the roster to prioritize spending time with his family in such adverse circumstances.
Kayla Vesia breaks her silence and thanks for the support
With the beginning of 2026, Kayla decided to reappear on social networks to share how they are coping with the grief. In an emotional video, she explained:
Alex and I are trying to get through each day. Every day is so different for us, and I really have no words
In addition, she was honest in admitting that she was never prepared for such a situation:
“I was prepared for whatever might happen. I wasn’t prepared not to be able to take my baby home.”
For Alex and Kayla, this “good laugh” was a necessary break in the midst of pain, and for many fans, a sign that baseball is more than just a sport.
