The important reason why Cody Bellinger will renew his contract with the Yankees for next season

The MLB market is heating up again after analyst Ryan Garcia claimed on a podcast that the New York Yankees have already made a formal offer for Cody Bellinger, one of the most coveted free agents on the market. According to Garcia, the New York franchise is very confident of completing the signing.

“The Yankees have made a formal offer to Cody Bellinger, according to John Heyman of the New York Post. And at this point, I really think the deal is going to get done. I don’t think the Yankees are going to lose Bellinger,” he said.

Mets and Dodgers appear to be competition, but Yankees have the edge

While there are other teams interested, such as the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, the outlook looks favorable for the Yankees. According to Garcia, the Mets could try to make a bigger offer, but they are a conservative organization with spending

For their part, the Dodgers would be more inclined to short-term proposals, while Bellinger is looking for a solid, structured five-year project, in line with the Bronx franchise’s intentions.

Yankees don’t make offers “just because”

A key point made by the analyst is that the Yankees historically only formalize proposals when they consider that the deal can be closed, which would raise the level of optimism of the management.

“The Yankees don’t usually make official offers unless they believe there is a real chance the player will accept,” Garcia said. “Once you get to this point, things usually move quickly.”

He also stressed that unless another franchise comes in with a significantly higher offer, he does not expect a “bidding war,” which would pave the way for the New Yorkers.

Mutual interest and mutual praise

The Yankees’ interest in Bellinger is not new. Brian Cashman, the team’s general manager, had already publicly expressed his desire to have him again, acknowledging previous conversations with Scott Boras, the player’s agent.

“We’d love to have Bellinger back. I talked to Scott Boras about him and other free agents of his,” he said in November.

Bellinger has also shown admiration for the organization, reinforcing the perception that both parties would be aligned

A possible move that could change the market

If the deal goes through, it would not only be a show of authority by the Yankees, but could set the pace for the free agent market, given the sporting and media weight of the player. For now, everything indicates that the deal is closer rather than further away, and expectations are growing in the Bronx.
