If there is one facet in which Lionel Messi excels besides scoring goals, it is in providing assists. The Argentine forward has a lot of quality when it comes to setting up his teammates and over the years, no player has been able to match his record of 2011/12 season, but there is one player who is currently putting pressure on him.
This is Michael Olise, a Bayern Munich player who has been in exceptional form this season and when it comes to assists he is number one. The French national has stood out a lot and could break Messi’s record, considering the number of games he still has left.

Bayern’s season, and Olise’s in particular, has been quite good. The German team is top of the Bundesliga and second in the Champions League. Olise has been a key player, contributing with goals and assists.
According to Transfermarkt statistics, Olise has 21 assists this season, combining the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Interestingly, the Frenchman is very close to matching Leo Messi and his fantastic season in 2011.
In the 2011/12 season, Messi provided 32 assists, an incredible figure that no player has been able to match. However, it seems that Olise is very close and if Bayern continues to dominate, he could equal or surpass the Argentine.
Bayern Munich excited about Champions League
Bayern Munich’s recent appearances in the UEFA Champions League have not been the best. The German team has not been as prominent as in previous years, but its history weighs heavily and this season things have gone very well.
The German team is second in the competition table and has only lost one match, so it is assured of qualification for the round of 16 and its performance is encouraging to at least reach the semi-finals this year.
With players like Olise, the Bundesliga leaders want to lift the Champions League trophy again and this will not be easy, as there are rivals such as Arsenal who are also great candidates, but in Germany they know that this could be the year to strike a blow.
