Thanksgiving Day 2025 could set a new ratings record

Thanksgiving Day 2025, which will extend into Black Friday, is expected to deliver extremely high television ratings thanks to the tremendous matchups scheduled by the NFL. The first game of the country’s beloved sports day features two NFC North rivals seeking to establish themselves as the best in the division. The Green Bay Packers visit the Detroit Lions in an intense showdown.

Later comes the long-awaited matchup, the one expected to steal the spotlight. The Kansas City Chiefs will visit the Dallas Cowboys. There are strong indicators that it could become the most-watched game in the history of Thanksgiving. To close out the night, the Cincinnati Bengals will face the Baltimore Ravens, a matchup that offers the perfect complement for finishing the day of food and celebration. However, that is not all.

The league scheduled a Black Friday game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears, adding the final touch to a holiday weekend already filled with excitement.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions

The NFC North has been the dominant force in recent years. Although the NFC holds the reigning champion, the previously mentioned teams stand out for their talent on both sides of the ball. The massive nationwide fan base of the Packers, combined with the long tradition of the Lions playing on Thanksgiving, guarantees a huge number of viewers glued to their televisions for the day’s opening game. This matchup is a repeat of their Week 1 meeting, which ended in a 27-13 Packers victory.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Dallas Cowboys

It is estimated that around 50 million people will tune in to this game, which kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. The 2022 matchup between the Giants and the Cowboys reached 42 million viewers.

This new projected total would easily surpass the existing record. While the Cowboys are not enjoying their best moment, their defense has experienced a resurgence that could cause major trouble for Mahomes.

Anybody who’s been watching football for the last few years knows that the Chiefs have almost kind of surpassed the Cowboys really as the bell cow.

Mike North

Said Mike North, NFL vice president of broadcasting and planning, last May on the Up & Adams podcast, adding:

And this is what happens when you’re pop culture, part of the fabric of the country right now. And this is par for the course for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have recently become the team generating the highest ratings in the league, and now that they will face the franchise with the largest fan base in the country, a record-breaking figure is expected, as mentioned. The other two games complement the holiday weekend, providing spectacular matchups designed to keep fans fully entertained.
