Myles Garrett’s speeding ticket could have been much worse

Off-field headlines have once again followed Myles Garrett, but this time the situation could have ended far more severely for the star pass rusher of the Cleveland Browns. Newly-surfaced police bodycam footage from a recent traffic stop in Ohio shows the defensive standout receiving a reduced speeding citation after allegedly driving well over 100 miles per hour.

The incident took place on Interstate 71 in Wayne County, where an officer pulled over Garrett in the northbound lanes.

In the footage, the Browns defender appears calm and cooperative as the officer approaches his vehicle and requests his information.

At one point during the stop, the officer jokingly told Garrett she initially thought he might attempt to drive away after being pulled over.

“Nah, not on you,” Garrett responded.

While the ticket he ultimately received listed his speed at 94 mph, reports indicate the officer originally clocked the Cleveland Browns star traveling above 100 mph.

Instead of issuing the harsher citation, the officer opted for the lesser violation. That decision proved significant because, under Ohio traffic laws, a citation for driving over 100 mph can require a mandatory court appearance.

By citing the lower speed, the officer allowed Garrett to resolve the matter without appearing before a judge.

According to public records, the star defensive end has already paid the $157 fine associated with the citation.

A long history of speeding citations

This latest violation adds to a growing list of speeding tickets for Myles Garrett since entering the NFL in 2017.

Reports indicate the citation is at least his ninth speeding offense in Ohio during that time.

Before this most recent incident, Garrett‘s last speeding ticket occurred in August 2025 when he was reportedly caught driving 100 mph in a 60-mph zone.

The speeding issues have raised eyebrows, particularly given a frightening crash involving the Cleveland Browns star in a previous incident when his vehicle flipped and rolled while a female passenger was inside.

Both survived the accident, though the crash served as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with high-speed driving.

Despite the off-field distractions, Garrett continues to dominate on the field.

The former Defensive Player of the Year delivered one of the most remarkable seasons of his career, recording 23 sacks – a single-season record – along with 60 tackles, 39 quarterback hits, 33 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles.

Trade speculation continues to swirl

While the speeding incident has already been resolved, Garrett‘s future with the Cleveland Browns has become a separate topic of debate across the league.

During a recent appearance on ESPN‘s Get Up former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum floated a hypothetical trade scenario that would send Garrett to the Detroit Lions in exchange for two first-round picks and wide receiver Jameson Williams.

“You need so many weapons, you have so many holes to fill,” Tannenbaum said. “If I’m the Browns, I do this to start the massive rebuild.”

However, the idea has been widely dismissed by fans and analysts alike. Financial realities make such a move extremely difficult.

Trading Garrett before June 1 would leave the Browns with more than $40 million in dead cap space, while even a post-June 1 trade would offer limited financial relief.

With Garrett under contract through the 2030 season and performing at an elite level, the franchise currently has little incentive to move one of the most dominant defensive players in football.
