Edgar Berlanga, who shared the ring with Canelo in 2024, believes that Crawford has what it takes to spring a surprise, but warns of a weight difference that could be decisive.

There are still more than a couple of months to go before the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and it is already one of the most relevant topics in the world of boxing and sport in general.

Various figures in the sport have shared their views on this highly anticipated fight, including Edgar Berlanda, a boxer who has already faced the Mexican before. ‘The Chosen One’ was brief and direct when sharing his vision of the fight in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV:

Crawford just has to go in and do what he knows how to do

Edgar Berlanga’s prediction for Canelo vs Crawford fight

When asked for a prediction, Berlanga opted for the American boxer: “I think Crawford can do it”.

Although Berlanga could not cope with Canelo in their 2024 duel, where he was clearly dominated, he did not hesitate to support the talent of Crawford: “He has to show his IQ, show why he has been undisputed champion in two divisions,” added the New York boxer. However, he was also honest about what he considers the biggest obstacle, the weight.

It’s a big jump in weight, that could make the difference… it’s like me going up to heavyweight

Berlanga

Crawford is taking a significant leap by facing a natural super middleweight like Canelo, something that could play against him in terms of power and physical endurance.

Berlanga highlights Crawford’s courage

Even so, Berlanga supports the American’s courage: “If he loses, we will all know that he tried to be great. He is testing himself”.

Although he doesn’t think Crawford can knock out Canelo, he does insist that his ring intelligence and strategy will be key if he is to win by decision.

The predictions are varied, however, most point to a victory for Saul Alvarez given his experience and hierarchy in the agreed weight. What is clear is that this fight, scheduled for September 13, will be one of the most anticipated of the year, not only because of the magnitude of the names involved, but also because of the clash of styles, experience and weight.
