Terence Crawford has no intention of giving Canelo Alvarez a rematch

Since September 13, 2025, Terence Crawford has been celebrating. After defeating Canelo, the Nebraska boxer is enjoying that victory, which also has an impact on the mystery of his next fight. So far, there are no clues of a short-term fight.

Boxing fans and aficionados are wondering whether the super middleweight world champion will apply the same tactic he carries out between fights: to remain inactive for a year. The intrigue stems from the interest they have in seeing him in action to defend his belts before September 28, 2026, when he turns 39.

Journalist Chris Mannix posted on his X account that “Crawford is aiming for his next event in March”. However, the information he provides does not specify any source. It is a possibility that remains a rumor. Likewise, if this were the case, the option of Canelo as an opponent would be ruled out, this is because the Mexican pugilist will return to the ring in the first days of May. This leaves the question in the air: When will Crawford put on the gloves again? Against whom?

Turki Alalshikh will not take risks with Terence Crawford and a filler fight

One of the names that has been mentioned in the rumor mill about a possible fight for Crawford in March is that of influential Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh. The businessman is key to understanding that the boxer would not consider returning for that month, because the Arab would not be willing to pay between 20 and 50 million dollars for an exhibition fight. In the best case scenario, Turki would prefer to be patient for a rematch with Canelo rather than gamble on a hasty bout against an unworthy opponent.

Are Iglesias and Mbilli a risk for Terence Crawford?

Cuban Osleys Iglesias and Cameroonian-Canadian Christian Mbilli are two boxers who have been put on the radar of fans and experts to face Crawford, but they would be ruled out as options because they represent a danger to the champion.

Crawford and his team’s goal is to position themselves as one of the best of all time. Measuring himself against Iglesias or Mbilli could be counterproductive to that goal because both are considered young fighters with the ability to defeat the monarch.
