Swiatek amazed by historic double bagel against Anisimova: “It seems super surreal”

Not even Iga Swiatek could quite believe the historic 6-0, 6-0 scoreline that crowned her Wimbledon champion for the first time. It was a historic thrashing of Amanda Anisimova to win her sixth Grand Slam in her still young career. Not since the 1988 French Open, when Steffi Graf defeated Natalia Zvereva, had anything like it been seen.

These were his words on the court, after receiving the trophy from the Princess of Wales:

“This seems surreal. I want to congratulate Amanda for two incredible weeks, regardless of what happened today. I hope we play many tournaments together and also congratulate your team.”

I didn’t even dream of this because I felt it was very far away

“I didn’t even dream of this because it felt so far away. I feel like an experienced player, but I never expected this victory. My team believed in me more than I did and I want to thank my coach, who joined me this year. We have shown everyone that this is working. It’s the best a player can have. I want to thank everyone who makes this tournament so unique. There is no other tournament like this. I felt a lot of pressure on center court, but this year I enjoyed it a lot and I really enjoyed my game.”

This triumph is also the 100th in a Grand Slam match in Iga Swiatek’s career. And she does it with her 120th Grand Slam match. She is the fastest player to reach 100 Grand Slam victories after Serena Williams in 2004, who did it with 116.
